I currently hold one to one sessions with a girl with Rett Syndrome, we meet once a week and have a lovely time singing and interacting together. Music sessions clearly engages her and brings her happiness. I really enjoy these sessions and look forward to them each week.

Stella, mother of Maddie in the photos above:

“Our daughter Maddie is not able to speak in the conventional way but through her music sessions with Shirley she has found her `voice’ and new ways to express herself.  Each session is unique as Shirley follows Maddies responses depending on how she is feeling on that particular day. It is a pleasure for me to watch the obvious enjoyment Maddie gains from these sessions.”

Over the years I have held sessions for children with disabilities and worked on various projects with children with mental health and behavioural problems.

“Hi Shirley
I have heard very good reports of Saturday thanks so much the children loved it and were really taken by what you did, also you have given us some ideas an additional extra!”

“We booked Shirley for 4 Christmas parties for children with special needs. The children (and staff!) thoroughly enjoyed it and we learned some new activities and songs to use in the future – a very welcome bonus! Shirley held the children’s attention for the whole 45 minutes, not an easy task taking into consideration the different ages and abilities of the children.

We would not hesitate to recommend Yo Baby!
Thank you again Shirley.”

Dave Cuthbert / Sound Minds / Music and creative arts interventions with adults and young people with mental health problems.

Shirley has worked with Sound Minds in challenging situations (a Child and
Adolescent Mental Health clinic, and a school based group for children with
mental health issues).  She has always shown great dedication,
professionalism and understanding of the individual children’s needs.  In
particular she has an ability to structure her sessions such that every child
has the opportunity to develop their creativity and participation in the group.
